About the victim liaison service

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) victim liaison service is a state-wide service that helps victims of serious crimes by providing information about their case and connects victims and their families with support services.

The victim liaison service provides victims and witnesses of serious crimes involved in a matter:

  • personalised support from a victim liaison officer assigned to each matter
  • access to an extended-hours central contact centre from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, by calling 1800 845 110. You can also email dppvictimliaisonservice@justice.qld.gov.au.
  • secure access to current information online 24/7 via an online victims' portal.

Victim liaison officers

Victim liaison officers (VLO) work in each ODPP office and are assigned to matters.  Your VLO will reach out when we receive your contact details. This can happen either before the case leaves the Magistrates Court (called pre-committal) or after it has been sent to the District, Supreme or Childrens Court of Queensland (called post-committal).

A VLO will make contact with either a:

  • person who has suffered harm as the result of an alleged criminal offence
  • parent or guardian of a child victim or a victim with impaired capacity who has suffered harm as a result of an alleged criminal offence
  • family member of a deceased person who died because of an alleged criminal offence
  • nominated support person.

VLOs make sure victims and their families get timely updates about the defendant's prosecution, the court process, and the victim’s role as a witness if needed. They also help by referring victims and witnesses to support services such as financial help, counselling, and other practical support.

Extended hours contact centre

We also have a team of victim liaison officers who staff our victim liaison service contact centre from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

The contact centre ensures that victims and witnesses are able to speak with a VLO in the event they are not able to connect with their assigned VLO and need immediate support.

Victim and witness portal

Victims involved in a matter with the ODPP can register to access information such as court event dates and times and court outcomes  from the ODPP online.  A new, secure and automated information portal gives victims flexibility and choice as to how they receive information about a matter relating to them.

How you can access the portal

Secure, initial registration to the portal is via a link provided by the ODPP victim liaison service and authenticated via "Tell Us Once" using the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) verification system or myID.

Victims with current matters with the ODPP can register and login to the portal by first connecting with the ODPP victim liaison service through their assigned victim liaison officer, or the victim liaison service contact centre between 7am and 8pm, Monday to Friday on 1800 845 110. You can also email dppvictimliaisonservice@justice.qld.gov.au.

Your VLO will send you an initial notification to sign-up and register for login.  They will provide instructions on how to register and how to login.
