Work experience placement program
Kickstart your career in criminal law
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions offers a four-week work experience placement program (WEPP) for law students with a strong interest in criminal law. We offer two, full-time, structured programs each year (Winter and Summer). We offer multiple positions across our metropolitan and regional chambers.
Program overview
Jump into real criminal cases from start to finish, working alongside experienced legal professionals who will guide you every step of the way. You’ll team up with crown prosecutors, legal staff, and other WEPP participants, gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative environment. Plus, you’ll observe criminal trials, court hearings and meetings with victims and witnesses, providing you with direct insight into the workings of the justice system.
This program gives you practical, hands-on legal experience and exposure to a wide range of criminal law matters to meet your own learning objectives and to meet the objectives established as part of the WEPP. You’ll build valuable professional skills while working in a fast-paced, team-focused setting that’s designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in law.
